What an MOT covers

An MOT checks whether a vehicle meets minimum legal road-safety and environmental standards on the day of the test. It is not the same as a service.

When an MOT is due

• You can normally test up to one month minus one day before expiry and keep the existing renewal date
• Check the current expiry date on GOV.UK using the vehicle registration
• Book early if you already know about a defect or warning light that may affect the result

What happens if the vehicle fails

• The result is recorded through the official testing system
• We explain each defect and advisory item in plain language
• You receive a repair estimate before any additional work begins
• You decide whether Motorsector carries out the repairs

MOT repairs and retests

• MOT failure repairs can be quoted from the failure sheet or after inspection at Streatham
• No additional repair starts without your approval
• Retest arrangements depend on the failure items and whether repairs are completed by us
